Tá Coiste Glas an-ghníomhach i nGaelcholáiste na Mara ag obair ar chlár Scoileanna Glasa. Bíonn daltaí, múinteoirí agus tuismitheoir rannpháirteach sa Choiste seo.
Is clár oideachais uilechuimsitheach timpeallachta idirnáisiúnta é clár na Scoileanna Glasa, a chuireann bealach saincheaptha agus inrialaithe ar fáil don scoil chun ceisteanna timpeallachta an churaclaim a chur i bhfeidhm sa scoil féin ó lá go lá. Is é mian chlár na Scoileanna Glasa ná an fhoghlaim a shíneadh lasmuigh den seomra ranga agus dearcadh agus geallúint fhreagrach a chothú sa bhaile agus sa phobal i gcoitinne.
Bronnadh ceithre Bhratach Glas ar Ghaelcholáiste na Mara ó bunaíodh an scoil i 2007. Tá bratach glas ar foluain lasmuigh den scoil agus pobal uile na scoile fíor-bhrodúil as sin. Oibrímid uile as lámha a chéile ionas go mbeidh feasacht agus gníomhú na timpeallachta mar chuid ann féin de shaol agus d’éiteas ár scoile.
A very active Green Schools committee is involve in the Green Schools project in Gaelcholáiste na Mara. Students, teachers and parents are members of this committee. Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.
Gaelcholáiste na Mara has been awarded four Green Flags since the establishment of the school in 2007. The Green Schools committee is currently embarking on the fifth Green Schools theme of “biodiversity”.
The Green Flag flies proudly outside the school in recognition of whole-school efforts to preserve the environment and strive towards sustainable living. The school work as a community to ensure environmental awareness and action is embedded in the school culture and ethos.
