Pleanáil agus eolas don téarma deireanach.

A Thuismitheoir/Caomhnóir dhíl,

Tá súil agam go raibh Cáisc slán suaimhneach agaibh ar fad. Is é feidhm an litir seo ná chun an plean atá againn le haghaidh scoláirí Bliain 1, Bliain 2 agus Bliain 5 don téarma deireanach a roinnt libh.

We hope that we find you all in good health, that Easter went well for everyone and that you are coping well with our unusual and unnatural new way of life.

School management and the teaching staff are now planning to work remotely with all students for the final term of the year. This term is a six week block going from April 20th to May 29th. Unfortunately it is now inevitable that we will not meet again in a normal school environment before then. This situation is far from ideal and presents challenges for us all but all we can do is collectively put our shoulders to the wheel and make the best of a bad situation.

As a team we have reviewed the first three week period of remote teaching and learning and we are hoping to develop and improve our practices and methods as we go along.

To help parents monitor the work being done by your sons/daughters we will be reverting to the Vsware system for the last term. If a student has not submitted work for whatever reason, teachers will record – ‘Obair in easnamh’ (Work not submitted) on the profile of the student in question. Parents can log in and keep an eye on the progress of work and discuss at home if necessary. School management and year heads will also be monitoring the system and contact parents if interventions are required. Again we acknowledge that working from home is not straightforward for everyone because of varying factors but parents will know best if a student has a genuine reason for not submitting work and so on. There will be no points associated with this new record on Vsware. it is merely a means of communication with parents. Teachers are also encouraged to use the positive points system to promote good work among students for the last term. Any parents who have difficulty accessing their Vsware accounts can contact Fiona for assistance-

When we reach the end of the year there will be 9 weeks of school lost to the Covid 19 crisis. Next year 20/21 students of Bliain 1, Bliain 2 and Bliain 5 will obviously be moving onto the next year of the Junior and Senior Cycle. It is important to note that while every effort will be made it will not be possible to make up 9 weeks of work next year. This means that it is very important that all students in these year groups make an honest effort to keep up with the work being done, this work will undoubtedly stand to them next year.

We wish to stress to parents and students that remote teaching and learning will never be a substitute for a normal face to face school environment but until we can return to that scenario all we can do is work as hard as we can. By the end of May we can come out of this period with real a sense of achievement despite the great challenges the crisis has presented.

We greatly regret all the extra-curricular activities, school events and simple day to day interactions that will not take place for the remainder of the school year and cannot be done remotely. We look forward to the days when we will cherish and embrace these integral aspects of school life again.

Lastly school management and staff want to acknowledge and thank you for the great parental support we have received to date during this crisis and we ask you to continue to support your son/daughter in their work for the last term.

Ar scáth a chéile a mhiarimid.

Le gach deá-ghuí,

Tony Ó Murchú
