Eolas anseo - Bliain 3

A Thuismitheoir/Caomhnóir dhíl,

Tá tuairiscí agus torthaí foilsithe chugaibh inniu ar Vsware. Tá sonraí anseo thíos faoin tuairisc sin chun cabhrú libh bunús na tuairisce a thuiscint níos fearr. Tá eolas ann freisin faoin bhféilire don scoilbhliain seo chugainn.

We have published the end of year 3rd year reports today. Some teachers have had technical difficulties at home inputting results but any results not posted now will be inputted in the next few days. As explained in May the results on this report differ greatly from the normal Junior Certificate results your son/daughter would have received in September. These results have been put together with a combination of continuous assessment/online exams/ a series of tasks and various other methods of assessment. Each result and the basis for it is explained on a subject by subject basis. These results are based on performance in 3rd year only.

This report is slightly different from a normal summer report which students would have received in 1st/2nd year. For the most part teachers have not commented on the overall performance of the student in this subject. In some cases they have explained the basis for the result or the various aspects of performance taken into account. On this occasion the Ceann Bliana (Year head)- Gearóid Ó hÉalaithe has given a comment at the bottom of the report to summarise your son/daughters progress at the end of 3rd year.

There is also a section in that comment titled – Taithí foghlama eile (Other learning experiences): This has been compiled by school management and Oide Laura who collected information from students in the last term. This section acknowledges the involvement of your son/daughter in extracurricular activities over the course of their Junior Cycle years. We highly value these activities as an integral part of the learning experience in Gaelcholáiste na Mara.

You will notice also that there are MRB(CBA) – Measúnu rang bhunaithe(Class based assessment results) listed for some subjects. These are a part of the new Junior Cycle, some subjects studied by this year’s cohort were a part of the new model and some were still a part of the traditional JC. This is being rolled out on a phased basis in the last few years with a few more subjects becoming part of the system each year. The grade descriptors for the new JC are also in use in those subjects. These are different from the traditional A/B/C model, below is a key to help understand these new descriptors awarded for general progress in the subject and also the other descriptors used for CBAs. Again not all subjects had CBAs for this group.

Féilire (Calendar)

We are currently planning for a normal return to school in late August. Obviously all schools will be following the guidelines we will receive from the Department of Health and Education on hand hygiene and various other measures being discussed. Planning is ongoing to ensure that the relevant procedures will be in place when we return to school.

Our féilire(calendar) for the year is now live on the website and app and can be viewed on the website at this link: Féilire 20/21.

This live calendar is the best calendar to work from as I update it with day to day and week to week events as we go through the schoolyear. You can also sync events relevant to you ie: cruinniú tuistí/scoláirí (PT meetings) with your phone calendar through our app- iclassCMS. Simply download the iclassCMS app from the app store and follow the instructions for anyone who has not yet downloaded it.

For anyone who would like to print out the calendar as it is now for the schoolyear 20/21 I am attaching a PDF copy at this link below:

Féilire 2021

At this stage I want thank you all sincerely for all your support during what has been a very challenging time for us all. Wishing you all a very happy and healthy summer. We greatly look forward to seeing all our students again in late August as they transition into the senior cycle of Gaelcholáiste na Mara. Bain gach taitneamh as an saoire agus táimid ar fad ag súil go mór le gach éinne a fheiceáil slán agus sábháilte arís ag deireadh an tsamhraidh.

Le gach deá-ghuí i gconaí,

Tony Ó Murchú
