A Chara,
Is mian liom sonraí a roinnt libh faoi feachtas tábhachtach atá ag tarlú sa scoil faoi láthair agus sna seachtainní amach romhainn.
For a few weeks now we have been discussing the very topical issue of mobile phone use with our students as we launch the ‘Dícheangail le hAthcheangail’ (Disconnect to Reconnect) campaign. Coincidentally this issue is very much in public conversation now with the recent release of the Netflix series Adolescence and the issues that it has brought to light. The world is undoubtedly facing the reality where young and old are spending increasing amounts of time on mobile phones and specifically on social media. The general theme of our campaign in GCM is to highlight the knock-on effects of excessive mobile phone/social media use, to look at our own personal habits through surveying/ways of managing and monitoring our own usage and to open a discussion on alternatives to spending so much time on phones/social media etc. I am in the process of surveying all our students at the moment and explaining the campaign to them. We are planning a wellbeing and awareness week the week before the Easter holidays.
We see you as parents/guardians having a crucial role to play in this conversation.
