Cianfhoghlaim Eanáir 2021

A chairde,

Athbhliain faoi mhaise chugaibh ar fad agus tá súil agam go bhfuil gach éinne slán agus sábháilte. Is é feidhm an litir seo ná chun ár bplean don chéad cúpla seachtain eile a phlé.

The country finds itself again in an unprecedented situation with regard to Covid 19. This has unfortunately resulted in the Government taking the decision that schools must close again until February 1st at the earliest. We will now return to remote work until that date. I want to layout our plans to you so everyone knows what to expect and hopefully we can have a productive period before we return to school again.

Learning platforms:

Teachers will be working with students through learning platforms such as Teams and One Note. There are youtube videos compiled by Oide Rebekah below this article to explain to students and parents how this remote teaching and learning will work. It is important that students and parent(s)/Guardian(s) view these videos.

We will be following the normal school timetable from Monday on. As a staff we intend on organising as many live engagements with classes as often as we can and as often as is possible with the working conditions we have from home.

At a minimum work will be set according to the normal school timetable students have and teachers may also post videos explaining the work to be covered and so on to replicate as much as possible a normal class setting.

IT and the access to our 365 accounts is imperative at this time. If students have issues they need to resolve with their account, please email Oide Breandán for assistance –

If there are other issues that arise along the way please email for assistance/advice and so on.

Teachers will use vsware to note if work has not been submitted or if students are not engaging. Please note- This information is not for the purposes of recording negative points, there will be no points associated with these records for the remote working period. These records will be made to assist parents in keeping an eye on progress. For example a student may not be submitting work correctly or may be missing out on work or classes because of an IT issue. If a parent sees something noted on Vsware we can then deal with the problem. Mistakes may be made by both teachers and students along the way. This is unavoidable and to be expected in remote working conditions. – ‘Ní bhíonn saoi gan locht’

The school recognises the great challenges our students face keeping up with work at home and the various obstacles students may face. We were all very happy to get back into school for the first term and the real value of being in school was never more apparent after last year. However all we can do as a school community is control the controllable and be as positive and pro-active as possible. That is why we are appealing to all students to engage in the remote learning from next Monday the 11th and to stay with it. This will stand to all of us when we return to school again.

Students will need to keep a close eye on their Teams and One Note accounts in particular to ensure that they keep up with everything. We also ask students to behave appropriately at all times on our online forums as always. The behaviour was impeccable last year and we expect the same for this period.

As I stated on a number of occasions last year remote teaching and learning will never adequately replace the real school environment but for now we must press on and get the best out of the weeks that lie ahead and hope that we will be able to return to school in February.

I thank you all in advance for the support that will be needed in the coming weeks.

Ar scáth a chéile a mhairimid níos mó ná riamh.

Le gach deá-ghuí,

Tony Ó Murchú
