A Thuismitheoir/Caomhnóir dhíl
Is mian liom eolas a roinnt libh anseo mar gheall ar na pleananna atá ag an scoil chun measúnú a dhéanamh ag deireadh an téarma seo le Bliain 1, 2 agus 5.
In normal circumstances as a staff we would now be planning for our end of year Summer exams for 1st/2nd/5th years. We feel as a staff that while the circumstances are very different that it is important that we assess the students in various ways at the end of the term. The objective of this assessment is to provide a structured and formal end to this school year. It will also provide students with an idea of how they are progressing. This assessment is not intended to increase the stress levels of students at an already difficult time and that is why we are structuring it differently from other years.
Remote Examinations/ Tests:
Every subject is different particularly taking into account our current learning environment. As a result we are allowing each department to decide whether some form of ‘remote’ exam is appropriate as part of their assessment. Obviously these will be remote examinations and could be open book tests or short questions arranged through Microsoft Forms or another platform like it. We will be arranging a timetable for these examinations in the last week of term May 25-29th. Again not all subjects will have a test as part of their assessment. Teachers will communicate the plans with students. To allow for tests to take place, normal classes or remote work will finish on May 22nd. An examination timetable will be organised in the coming weeks and published on our website.
Other assessment methods:
Teachers will be combining a range of different assessment models. Some teachers will set students a task each week between now and the end of term. These tasks will be graded and the grades will go towards the final assessment mark.
Teachers may also use continuous assessment taking into account the work done since the start of this school year. We feel that assessing students in various ways and taking a number of factors into account is a fairer way to assess students at the end of this year with the unusual last few months we have had.
Report and results
As is normal we will use the Vsware system to publish the final Summer assessments. Teachers will begin to work on these reports at the end of the year when all assessments are completed and the final reports will be available on Vsware. This will be communicated with parents at the time.
Each subject teacher will communicate the plan they have for assessment with the students in the coming days. Please continue to support the work being done at home and encourage your son/daughters to engage fully with the assessments for the last few weeks. The work students do now will stand to them when we eventually return to a normal school environment.
We thank you for your continued support.
Le gach deá-ghuí,
