Taisceadáin (Lockers):
As has been the case for the last few years students will not be supplied with the combination lock. Students will have the option of bringing their own lock or alternatively using the locker without a lock. Clear instructions will be given to students about the times that they will be allowed access to the locker area. If students elect to use a lock with a key, they will have to make sure that they look after the key to ensure they have access to the locker.
Am sosa/am lóin-
The pandemic brought about huge changes in society in recent years and schools were no exception. Some of these changes were positive ones and will be retained post pandemic. One of the most positive aspects of the new approaches taken was the expansion of outdoor areas and the increased use of the outdoors. In GCM we have developed our outdoor areas in the past few years and from now on students will take all their breaks outside. Scandanaivian and other European countries have adopted this approach for years and the benefits for learning are significant . The fresh air is good for the mind and the body and the only time we will veer from this plan is during times of really inclement weather where an alternative plan will be put in place – ‘Plean Báistí’. These plans will be shared with students during induction but it will be important to ensure that students have appropriate coats(Black in colour please) and so on as we enter the Autumn and Winter months. As Alfred Wainwright put it - , “there is no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing”.
Éide scoile:
A reminder that students are to wear their full uniform every day bar the day when they have double PE. On that day students can wear the school tracksuit. This rule will be enforced from the first week and if a student comes in with the incorrect uniform we will be contacting home and requesting that the correct uniform be brought in.
Cruinnithe tuistí/scoláirí/múinteoirí- (PT Meetings)
During the past few years another change that was made was that we held our PT meetings online via Microsoft teams for obvious reasons. We are now looking to decide on the structure of meetings going forward and on whether to revert to our traditional meetings which took place face to face here in the school or to continue to utilise the online option. Your opinions are an important part of this planning process and that is why we would appreciate if you could fill out this very short one question survey – click the link below to complete: We understand that new first year parents haven’t experienced the PT meetings yet but you are welcome to fill out the survey if you have a particular preference-
